About this event
Learn about the history and plant communities of Baltimore Woods, a natural area of Oregon white oak and dry meadows, including a de-paved parking lot. Eastside Village Native Planters will visit Baltimore woods, in St, Johns, on a tour led by three longstanding members of the Friends of Baltimore woods. The group has been working for over 12 years to care for this area, which soon will be the site of the North Portland Greenway trail. Last winter, Eastside Village member volunteers helped restoration efforts by seeding native grasses into propagation flats to provide plugs to be planted out when the autumn rains come.
Please register via email to lizdally49@gmail.com or call the Eastside Village office at 503-866-0571.
This event is also open to members of North Star Village. There is no limit to the number of registrants. The site is at least ½ hour drive from our Village, there are several possible routes, and it is advisable to check your navigation app for the way with the best traffic conditions. The address to enter is 6710 N Catlin, look for the green “Events” sign, drive through the (always open) gate and turn right into the large parking area. We will all meet by the barriers. The tour will start at 10 and walk through the area for 1 to 1.5 hr. Afterwards those who wish may meet-up at Wonderwood Springs Coffee, 8811 N Lombard, for refreshments and a rest stop. There is no provision for personal tours for late comers, but as a public property managed as a natural area by various agencies, it is open to walk through any time during the posted hours. Please note that meadow path is on rocky, uneven ground, and access with walkers and wheelchairs will be difficult. The eventual Greenway trail is planned to be paved.
